July 22, 2020 Commissioner voted to dissolve District

posted Jul 31, 2020, 12:42 PM by Brinnon Parks

On July 22, 2020 after much discussion the Brinnon Parks and Recreation Commission voted to start the process in dissolving the Parks District. This was due to an increase in administrative oversight and cost of administrative overhead. During its 8 years, Commissioners both elected and appointed along with community and district volunteers contributed their time and resources to create a number of programs and events for the community's pleasure. These programs and events included: youth kayaking, free community swim days, art & wine, free computer classes, and ShrimpFest. The Commissioners will consider taking the next steps in dissolving the district on August 5 at the Pleasant Harbor Marina House at 10:00am - 308917 US Highway 101, Brinnon, WA 98320. The agenda for the meeting is available under the agenda tab.

On September 12, 2018, Brinnon Parks and Recreation District Commissioners provided the community with an update of the Point Whitney Access redevelopment project. The update was received from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) on September 6 as follows: The WDFW received a grant from the Recreation and Conservation Funding Board in the amount of $540,000 to redevelop and enhance the boating facility at the Point Whitney Access near Brinnon, Jefferson County. The scope of this project is to install a new elevated boat ramp, renovate the existing restrooms and kiosk, and formalize the parking with new gravel. The primary recreational opportunity provided by this project is motorized boating access to Hood Canal for fishing, shellfishing, pleasure boating, and wildlife viewing.
