About UsBrinnon Parks and Recreations District was formed in 2012 as Jefferson County Parks and Recreation District #2 by a vote of the Brinnon Community. The District consist of five commissioners of which one position is vacant. The Board currently meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. The first Wednesday is our regular meeting and on the second Wednesday we hold a working session. In June, the Board will determine if monthly working sessions are necessary to continue. Since the District was formed it has held and/or participated in numerous fundraising events such as: Soup Cook-off, Honorary Mayoral Race, swap meets at the Cove RV Park, Shrimpfest Pancake Breakfast, and a Scampi Dance. In addition, the District actively supported “Open Bottom Fishing in Hood Canal” which proved successful with bottom fishing now open. By the end 2016 and through most of 2017 the Board struggled with finances and membership turnover. The remaining Commissioners questioned whether to disband. However, with the fortitude and re-emergence of past Commissioners the decision was made to engage new members and reevaluate the Board priorities. During the first few months of 2018, the Board has stabilized and is working to host eight community swim days in July and August in partnership with Pleasant Harbor Marina. The Board is also in discussion with the School District regarding this program. The Board is also looking to host one other event for the community this summer. It is our intent to partner with both the public and private sectors to bring recreational opportunities to Brinnon residents and visitors alike. Please continue to visit our website as we build our Board and services to the community. Thank you, Board of Directors Brinnon Parks and Recreation District #2 |
